Sydney. A political storm has erupted in Australia after controversial comments made by Liberal senator Jacinta Price regarding migrant communities. The remarks, criticised as insensitive and offensive, prompted her colleague, Berowra MP Julian Leeser, to issue an unreserved public apology.
Representing one of Sydney’s most diverse electorates, Leeser extended an “unconditional apology” to members of the Indian community living in his constituency. He acknowledged the hurt caused by Price’s remarks and stressed that he did not share those views.
Leeser said, “I want to make it absolutely clear that I do not agree with the comments made by Jacinta Price. The Indian community has enriched this nation in every field—education, health, business, science, and culture. Questioning their contribution is unfair and goes against the values we stand for.”
The controversy began after Senator Jacinta Price made statements about migrants that were widely condemned as divisive. Many community groups, particularly those representing Indian Australians, reacted strongly and demanded clarification and accountability from the Liberal Party.
Observers say Leeser’s apology is an attempt to repair relations between the Liberal Party and migrant communities, especially at a time when immigration and multiculturalism are key issues in national politics. His statement also highlights internal disagreements within the party on sensitive social matters.

बेरेवरा क्षेत्र का प्रतिनिधित्व करने वाले सांसद जूलियन लीसर ने अपने निर्वाचन क्षेत्र की भारतीय मूल की जनता से “बिना शर्त माफी” मांगी। उन्होंने कहा कि वह अपने समुदाय की भावनाओं को समझते हैं और प्राइस की टिप्पणी से हुए आघात को गंभीरता से लेते हैं। लीसर ने कहा—
“मैं स्पष्ट करना चाहता हूँ कि जैसिंटा प्राइस की बातों से मैं सहमत नहीं हूँ। भारतीय समुदाय ने इस देश को शिक्षा, स्वास्थ्य, विज्ञान, व्यापार और संस्कृति जैसे हर क्षेत्र में समृद्ध किया है। उनके योगदान पर सवाल उठाना न केवल अनुचित है बल्कि हमारे साझा मूल्यों के खिलाफ भी है।”
दरअसल, लिबरल पार्टी की नेता जैसिंटा प्राइस ने हाल ही में प्रवासी पृष्ठभूमि वाले लोगों को लेकर विवादित टिप्पणी की थी। उनके बयान को कई प्रवासी समूहों ने अपमानजनक और असंवेदनशील बताया। खासकर भारतीय समुदाय ने इसे गंभीरता से लिया और अपनी नाराज़गी ज़ाहिर की।
