ICC Hall of Fame 2025: MS Dhoni Inducted, Honoured for Iconic Captaincy and Contribution to Indian Cricket

New Delhi, June 9, 2025 — Former India captain and cricketing legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been officially inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame 2025, cementing his legacy as one of the most influential figures in the sport's history.

Known for his calm demeanor, sharp cricketing acumen, and unmatched finishing skills, Dhoni led Team India to numerous historic victories, including the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, making him the only captain in world cricket to win all three major ICC white-ball tournaments.

Dhoni made his international debut in 2004 and quickly rose to prominence with his explosive batting and exceptional leadership qualities. As captain, he transformed India into a dominant force in both limited-overs and Test cricket. Under his leadership, India also achieved the No. 1 ranking in Test cricket for the first time in 2009.

Nicknamed 'Captain Cool', Dhoni’s influence went far beyond statistics. He mentored a generation of young cricketers and revolutionized wicketkeeping and tactical decision-making in high-pressure situations. Even after retiring from international cricket in 2020, his impact continues through the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he captains Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Speaking on the occasion, ICC CEO Geoff Allardice said, “MS Dhoni’s inclusion in the Hall of Fame is a recognition of his extraordinary achievements, leadership, and the mark he has left on the game globally. He inspired millions and changed the face of Indian cricket.”

Fans and former cricketers across the world have flooded social media with tributes, celebrating Dhoni’s unmatched contribution to the sport.

With this honour, Dhoni joins the elite league of Indian cricket greats such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, and Anil Kumble in the ICC Hall of Fame.
