कॉमनवेल्थ स्पोर्ट मूवमेंट के इतिहास में एक नया अध्याय जुड़ गया है। भारत के अहमदाबाद (अमदावद) को औपचारिक रूप से 2030 सेंचुरी कॉमनवेल्थ गेम्स की मेज़बानी सौंप दी गई है। ग्लासगो में आयोजित कॉमनवेल्थ स्पोर्ट जनरल असेंबली में 74 सदस्य देशों के प्रतिनिधियों ने भारत के प्रस्ताव को मंजूरी दी।
घोषणा होते ही माहौल भारतीय रंगों में रंग उठा। गुजरात की परंपरागत गरबा कला को प्रदर्शित करते हुए 20 गरबा नर्तक और 30 ढोल वादक मंच पर पहुंचे और उत्सव का अद्भुत माहौल बना दिया। प्रदर्शन में ग्लासगो और कॉमनवेल्थ के अन्य देशों की भारतीय मूल की समुदायों के कलाकार भी शामिल रहे।
कॉमनवेल्थ गेम्स की शुरुआत 1930 में हैमिल्टन (कनाडा) से हुई थी। 2022 में बर्मिंघम में हुए ताज़ा संस्करण में ऑस्ट्रेलिया शीर्ष पर रहा था, जबकि भारत चौथे स्थान पर रहा।
2030 का आयोजन कॉमनवेल्थ गेम्स के 100 वर्ष पूरे होने का प्रतीक होगा।
कॉमनवेल्थ स्पोर्ट के अध्यक्ष डॉ. डोनाल्ड रुकरे ने कहा, “यह कॉमनवेल्थ स्पोर्ट के लिए नए स्वर्ण युग की शुरुआत है। 2026 के ग्लासगो गेम्स के बाद हम 2030 में अमदावद के साथ एक शानदार सेंचुरी एडिशन की ओर बढ़ रहे हैं। भारत खेल, संस्कृति, युवा ऊर्जा और महत्वाकांक्षा का अद्भुत संगम है।”
कॉमनवेल्थ गेम्स एसोसिएशन ऑफ इंडिया की अध्यक्ष डॉ. पी.टी. उषा ने मेज़बानी मिलने पर खुशी जताते हुए कहा, “2030 के गेम्स न केवल सौ साल का उत्सव होंगे बल्कि आने वाली सदी के लिए नई दिशा भी तय करेंगे।”
अहमदाबाद 2030 के लिए प्रारंभिक खेल कार्यक्रम की घोषणा भी की गई। इसमें 15 से 17 खेल अनिवार्य रूप से शामिल होंगे —
एथलेटिक्स व पैरा एथलेटिक्स, स्विमिंग व पैरा स्विमिंग, टेबल टेनिस व पैरा टेबल टेनिस, बॉउल्स व पैरा बॉउल्स, वेटलिफ्टिंग व पैरा पावरलिफ्टिंग, आर्टिस्टिक जिम्नास्टिक्स, नेटबॉल और बॉक्सिंग।
अतिरिक्त खेलों की सूची में शामिल हैं:
आर्चरी, बैडमिंटन, 3x3 बास्केटबॉल व व्हीलचेयर बास्केटबॉल, बीच वॉलीबॉल, क्रिकेट T20, साइक्लिंग, डाइविंग, हॉकी, जुडो, रिदमिक जिम्नास्टिक्स, रग्बी सेवन्स, शूटिंग, स्क्वैश, ट्रायथलॉन एवं पैरा ट्रायथलॉन और रेसलिंग।
मेज़बान भारत दो नए या पारंपरिक खेल भी प्रस्तावित कर सकेगा।
स्कॉटलैंड के स्टार तैराक डंकन स्कॉट ने कहा, “घर में खेलना हमेशा विशेष होता है। भारतीय खिलाड़ियों के लिए 2030 बेहद प्रेरणादायक अवसर होगा।”
भारतीय विश्व चैंपियन बॉक्सर जैस्मिन लम्बोरिया ने कहा, “अपने देश में कॉमनवेल्थ गेम्स होना गर्व का क्षण है। अहमदाबाद खिलाड़ियों और दर्शकों का गर्मजोशी से स्वागत करेगा।”

In a landmark decision for the global sporting community, Amdavad, India, has been officially ratified as the host of the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games. The announcement was made during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly held in Glasgow, where delegates from 74 member nations endorsed India’s bid.
The General Assembly Hall erupted in colour and rhythm as soon as the decision was announced.
A spectacular cultural performance featuring 20 Garba dancers and 30 Indian dhol drummers showcased the energy and heritage of Gujarat, offering delegates a glimpse of what athletes and fans can expect in 2030. Performers from Glasgow’s Indian community and other Commonwealth regions took part, symbolising unity and diversity.
The Centenary Games will commemorate 100 years since the inaugural Commonwealth Games, held in 1930 in Hamilton, Canada. At the most recent Games in Birmingham (2022), Australia topped the medal tally, followed by England, Canada, India and New Zealand.
Commonwealth Sport President Dr Donald Rukare hailed the decision:
“This marks the beginning of a new golden era for Commonwealth Sport. After Glasgow 2026, we look forward to an exciting journey towards Amdavad 2030 for the Centenary edition. India brings scale, youth, ambition, culture and passion to the Games.”
President of the Commonwealth Games Association of India, Dr P.T. Usha, expressed pride and gratitude:
“We are honoured by the trust shown in India. The 2030 Games will celebrate a hundred years of the Commonwealth Movement and pave the way for the next century.”
Commonwealth Sport also announced the preliminary sports programme. The core sports confirmed for Amdavad 2030 include:
Athletics & Para Athletics, Swimming & Para Swimming, Table Tennis & Para Table Tennis, Bowls & Para Bowls, Weightlifting & Para Powerlifting, Artistic Gymnastics, Netball and Boxing.
Additional sports under consideration are:
Archery, Badminton, 3x3 Basketball & 3x3 Wheelchair Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Cricket T20, Cycling, Diving, Hockey, Judo, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Rugby Sevens, Shooting, Squash, Triathlon & Para Triathlon and Wrestling.
The host nation may also propose up to two new or traditional sports.
Multiple Commonwealth champion swimmer Duncan Scott said:
“The Commonwealth Games have been a special part of my journey. Competing in a home Games is incredible, and I’m excited for Indian athletes who will get that chance in 2030.”
Indian world champion boxer Jaismine Lamboria added:
“It’s a proud moment for India. Amdavad will give athletes and fans a warm, vibrant welcome. Competing on home soil will be hugely motivating for me and many others.”
